FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can parents attend?
Yes! A unique aspect of Bracing For Success is that we encourage at least one parent to attend camp with their child/ children. Parents are typically the primary showmanship coach for their kids so it is critical that they grow together.
Can younger siblings who are not registered for camp attend? Can they eat lunch?
Younger siblings who are not registered for camp and are accompanied with their parent are welcome to attend camp and watch. They are welcome to eat lunch but we appreciate a small donation to cover their food cost. Also plan to let the local camp liaison know ahead of time that you plan to bring a younger sibling so that they are prepared with enough food.
How many instructors will there be?
Our rule of thumb is to provide one instructor for every 10 campers. This number may vary slightly from camp to camp.
Will Glen Martin really be there?
Yes! Glen is the primary instructor at every camp.
What show supplies should I bring?
Plan to pack the basic necessities for overnight travel: feed, water buckets, feed pans, show collars, shavings, shovel and small wheel barrow, etc. You may throw in a fitting stand, but you won’t need to pack your clippers. Be prepared to clean your pens out at the conclusion of camp.
Should I clip my livestock ahead of time?
No, don't worry about clipping ahead of time. Make sure you have read Glen's welcome letter. Follow his instructions to make sure you are up to date on worming and de-licing your livestock.
Is there a host hotel or camper hook ups on the grounds?
Check with your local camp liaison to confirm if there is a host hotel available with special rates and / or camper and RV hookups.
Can I take pictures or video during camp?
Although you CAN NOT video camp in its entirety, you are allowed to video your child when an instructor is working one on one with your child. This is a valuable training tool that you will refer back to long after camp is over. You may NOT video anyone else's children.
Glen may allow you to video a showmanship demonstration but he will let you know at that time.
You do NOT have permission to post any videos that you take on social media or YouTube.
Will there be handouts?
Plan to bring a notebook, pens and pencils to take notes with during the classroom portions of camp. We do not provide handouts because we believe you will learn more if you have to take notes yourself. Paper, pens and pencils will be available in case you forget to bring some with you.
What time does camp start? Where's the agenda?
There is an agenda available on the registration web page. Registration begins at 8:00 on day one of camp and class begings at 9:00 am and runs to 5:00 pm. Day two begins at 9:00 am and concludes at 4:00 pm. Plan to arrive in time to feed and settle your livestock prior to 9:00.
